Hundreds leave Tapachula, Mexico to join thousands in migrant caravan heading for U.S.

TAPACHULAS, MX (KGNS) - A caravan of at least hundreds of migrants left from the southern Mexican City of Tapachula Sunday, heading for the U.S. Southern Border.
The smaller caravan plans to join a larger one that left six days ago.
Organizers said the first had swelled to some 7,000 people while the government in the southern Chiapas state said it estimated the group at 3,500 people.
A record number of people this year have crossed the Darien gap region connecting Panama and Colombia.
WEBB COUNTY, TX (KGNS) - Early voting came to an end last week, but Election Day is on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
On the ballot are 14 constitutional amendments which deal with property taxes, infrastructure, state parks and teacher retirement as well as several others.
An amendment becomes part of the Texas Constitution through a simple majority of support.
Some of the propositions that have many people talking are proposition four.
It would allow the state to spend 18 billion dollars on property tax cuts for homeowners and businesses as well as cut school district tax rates.
Proposition nine has been getting a lot of attention as well, it would put 3.3 billion dollars towards the Teacher Retirement System of Texas increasing pensions between two to six percent.
According to the Texas Tribune, teachers who retired before 2004 have not seen their pensions increase since 2013.
Also, residents of Rio Bravo will be electing a new mayor.
The two candidates vying for office are Gilbert Aguilar Jr. and Juan Carlos Garcia.
Election Day is on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
Polls will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - History was made Sunday morning as Laredo held its first-ever full marathon.
Officials say about 150 people took part in Sunday’s event and three local runners were able to qualify for the Boston Marathon as a result of taking part in the race.
Those three runners from Laredo are 17-year-old Diego Ramirez, 55-year-old Luis Posada, and 39-year-old Eduardo Ibarra.
Michael Morris, of Austin, Texas, was the top overall male finisher having completed the course in just under two and a half hours.
Tenley Ortiz, of Giddings, Texas, was the top women finisher, finishing in about three hours.
Both winners spoke about their experience at the marathon and the Gateway City.
Morris told us, “I’m very excited! It’s my first time ever to win a marathon. So, coming down for the win, and being the first one for Laredo, It’s just a cool experience for me! I’m very excited.”
Meanwhile, Ortiz said, “This is my first marathon win, by far. So, this is so exciting, and to be a part of the first Laredo Marathon ever, it’s just unique and special! I’m so glad we could come down here and do this. It was amazing. You all did such a great job!”
The two winners also took home a $2,500 prize.
LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - At least one person is taken to the hospital after a car fell on top of them.
Multiple Laredo Police officers and fire officials were seen at a home near 615 Meadow Avenue at around 5:30 p.m.
According to Laredo Police, a vehicle fell on top of someone.
Video shows paramedics loading someone on a stretcher and then putting them in the ambulance.
No word on the person’s condition or what may have transpired.

LAREDO, Tx. (KGNS) - A man wanted for sexual assault of a child is caught by federal agents.
On Wednesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested Cesar Castro, 67 at the Juarez Lincoln Bridge.
When officers looked into Castro’s background, they found out that there was an active arrest warrant for him out of Harris County in Houston, related to a crime where he was accused of inappropriate behavior with a child, specifically touching them.
Officers took him into custody and handed him over to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.
He’s now waiting to go through the legal process.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Blue Santa is back, and sign-ups are underway!
Children aged 10 and under can be registered.
Registrations are taking place today until 4 p.m. at the Laredo Police Department, located at 4712 Maher ave.
The department will continue to hold registration from November 6th through the 9th, all between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - A shots fired call near a Laredo park results in one arrest.
Laredo Police charged Brandon Sandoval, 20 with discharging of a firearm.
The shooting was reported on Thursday, Nov. 2 at around 11:29 p.m. near 5911 Thomas Avenue.
Officers arrived and found spent casings at the park.
Police detained five individuals, one of which was Sandoval.
Sandoval was also charged with tampering with evidence and bribery as he attempted to offer officers money in exchange for his release.
