Cuellar and his wife Imelda have been indicted on federal charges for allegedly taking $600,000 in bribes from 2014 to 2021.

CNN’s Manu Raju caught up with the 68-year-old Congressmember in Washington D.C. to ask him about the allegations and if he plans to resign from office.

“Three of your people, ties to, just pleaded guilty in this bribery case against you. What’s your reaction to that?” Raju asked.

“We’re not afraid of the truth,” Cuellar responded.

Raju then asked Cuellar to clarify what he meant by his statement.

“Two of them were your ones, a consultant and a campaign chairman who said they’re funneling bribes to you,” Raju asked.

Cuellar repeated his statement, “We’re not afraid of the truth.”

Raju went on to ask Cuellar about the $600,000 in payments and how those funds ended up in his bank account.

Cuellar then responded that the information was not correct.

Raju asked Cuellar once again if he would resign to which Cuellar replied, “No”.

Cuellar and his wife are both facing several charges connected to a bribery scheme involving Azerbaijan and a Mexican Bank.
