LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A daring getaway involving a chase that ended at the banks of the Rio Grande River has resulted in an arrest.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 27-year-old Juan Miguel Regalado was detained by federal authorities during an inspection on Tuesday, June 5.
The case dates back to April 20 when the chase began in the Mines Road area. It eventually came to an end when the suspect drove the SUV into the river near Tres Laredos Park and swam across into Mexico.
However, Regalado’s escape was short-lived. Authorities were able to track him down and apprehend him during a subsequent inspection more than a month later.
Regalado has been transported to the Webb County Jail, where he faces charges of evading arrest and smuggling of persons.
TUCSON, Ariz. (Gray News) – A bobcat and a rattlesnake were caught battling on camera in Tucson, Arizona.
In a video posted to Facebook on Monday by Saguaro National Park, a bobcat is seen looking for a “morning snack,” fighting with the rattlesnake until the reptile retreats into the brush.
“[The bobcat] even went for the spicy danger noodle, that’s a true Tucson wildcat right there,” the national park wrote in the post.
The two animals eventually escaped from camera view, and “ended up making their way off into the desert before anyone could be declared a ‘winner,’” park officials said.
Park officials said with the summer heat coming in, local wildlife is taking advantage of the lower traffic around visitor centers. Temperatures in the area are reaching well over 100 degrees.

Laredo Police reported to the intersection of Belair Dr. and McPherson, where officers told us that the caller reported an elderly male in his 60s or 70s appearing without any signs of life.
When officers arrived, they performed CPR until paramedics arrived, and the man was eventually transported in critical condition to a local hospital.
Although the police department’s Crash Team Unit was on the scene and began its investigation as a possible auto-ped incident, law enforcement says that they are also considering whether or not the individual suffered a medical episode before the call.

‘It’s about time’: Locals react to Pres. Biden’s executive order addressing asylum seekers on the border

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Locals ponder and brace for the implications of President Biden’s latest executive action.
The order would allow Biden to temporarily shut down asylum requests at the U.S.-Mexico border once the number of daily crossings hits 2,500 and would allow the border to reopen once daily crossings come down to 1,500
The order could come into effect instantly, as according to the U.S. Customs Border Protection Agency, current crossings are well above 2,500.
Laredo immigration attorney Nelly Vielma says it’s about time, regarding President Biden’s proposed temporary asylum freeze.
“I believe it was about 300,000 people seeking asylum last year. Just in April alone, it was about 6,000 people per day, and so it’s unbearable. Our country can not withstand that. Having been in city council, I know it was a [huge] expense for the government,” Vielma says.
To Vielma the measure is like a band-aid, and she adds that further measures need to be taken to address what she described as an influx in the number of people seeking asylum.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Drivers are being asked to consider temporary road closures on the Loop this week.
This Thursday, June 6, TxDOT says the closures will take place while they work on power lines at the intersection of Shiloh Drive.
Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., officials say drivers in the area can expect three 15-minute closures.
TxDOT Public Information Officer Raul Leal lays out the department’s plans for that time period saying, “We’re going to have 3 intermittent full-lane closures on southbound and northbound U.S. 59 Loop approaching and departing Shiloh Drive, at the intersection where the traffic signal exists. This is to deactivate and remove electrical power lines as well as place new lights over the road.”
Thursday’s work is part of the U.S. 59 Loop upgrade project, a 5-year, 6-mile construction project that began in February of this year.
