Power Outages Reported across Laredo

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Thousands across Laredo report power outages after severe thunderstorms affect our area.

Over 1,000 customers are left without power near J.J. Estates by Del Mar Hills Area.

According to the AEP website, as of 11″oclock tonight several areas across town do not have any power. Over in South Laredo by Highway 83 by the Laredo College South Campus, another 1,000 customers have reported outages.

Outages have also been reported by the Concord Hills Neighborhood in southeast Laredo, more than 700 people have reported outages.

Over by Lakeside over 200 people have reported outages.

In central Laredo by Laredo Medical Center, more than 400 people have been left without electricity.

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - This Friday on Dateline, an investigation is opened into a string of deadly shootings targeting women in Laredo.

For months, Dateline crews were in the Gateway City talking to people close to the investigation of the killing spree.

The man accused was Juan David Ortiz, a former Border Patrol Agent.

The story unfolds right here tonight on KGNS on Friday at 9 p.m.

Driver involved in I-35 accident charged with accident involving damages and DWI

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A driver involved in an accident on I-35 is facing multiple charges including driving while intoxicated and accident involving damage to a vehicle.

Laredo Police arrested Joseph Chris Reyes Jr, age 23 in the case.

A victim called police on Friday at around 3:14 a.m. saying that a black Nissan Frontier had hit her vehicle near the 2300 block of Jacaman Road and fled the scene.

Moments later, police received another report about a hit run matching the same description at the 400 block of Calton Road.

Soon after, police received a call about a black Nissan Frontier that was involved in an accident at the 5300 block of I-35.

Authorities say Reyes was displaying signs of intoxication and was arrested on scene.

Reyes was transported to a hospital for medical evaluation and allegedly attempted to evade arrest.

Police say he even tried to grab an officer’s taser after he removed one his handcuffs.

Officers detained Reyes and charged him with accident involving damage to vehicle, driving while intoxicated, attempt to take weapon from an officer, escape from custody, evading arrest, and resisting arrest.

Rollover accident closes I-35 early Friday morning

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - An early morning accident leads first responders to block an I-35 entrance on the northbound lane.

KGNS News was at the scene of the accident on I-35 in front of the Hillside Frontage Road entrance at around 3:30 a.m.

Video shows a black vehicle that sustained heavy damage in the collision.

Fire units were still at the site of the accident as well as Laredo Police who were directing traffic.

Members of the crash team could also be seen investigating what led up to the accident.

No word on the condition of the driver or if any passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The entrance onto the highway is now open.
