LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A former Webb County sheriff’s deputy, Ignacio Rodriguez IV, has been denied bond after being indicted for sexual assault earlier this month.
Court documents show that the denial was based on two main reasons: the strong evidence against him and the amount of time he could face if found guilty.
Rodriguez, 30, is accused of an incident that happened in September 2024. He allegedly pulled over a female driver while on duty, sexually assaulted her, and threatened to use a firearm. Reports also say that Rodriguez turned off his body camera and dash cam during the incident.
Rodriguez has pleaded not guilty. If convicted, he could face life in prison.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) arrested a man found to have outstanding felony warrants for an alleged sex offense involving a child.
The arrest happened yesterday, Thursday, January 23, at the Gateway to the Americas Bridge, and involved 35-year-old Juan Geronimo Hernandez.
CBP officers had referred Hernandez for a secondary inspection, where they used biometric verification and federal databases to confirm his identity.
Because of this process, officers were able to discover that Hernandez was the subject of an outstanding felony arrest warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of indecency with a child issued by Webb County Sheriff’s Office.
The officers then arrested and transported Hernandez to Webb County Jail for adjudication of the warrant.
Laredo Port of Entry’s Port Director, Albert Flores, spoke on the arrest, mentioning, “Apprehensions of persons wanted for heinous crimes like these perfectly illustrate CBP’s continued commitment to keeping our communities safe.”

Customs officers from Laredo and Tucson, Arizona worked together to bring the man from Houston to the border. Officials say he is wanted in Veracruz for raping a minor. His name has not been released.
These handovers are usually done at Bridge Two, with federal officers from both the U.S. and Mexico present.
NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico (KGNS) - Workers in Mexico have started building large tents near the U.S.-Mexico border to prepare for a possible increase in deported migrants. Authorities in Ciudad Juarez, across from El Paso, say the tents will be able to house thousands of people and should be ready in the next few days.
These shelters are part of a plan by the Mexican government to set up reception areas in nine northern cities. The camps are being built to help migrants who may be deported as part of President Trump’s promise to carry out what he called the “largest deportation in U.S. history.”
In Nuevo Laredo, workers began construction on three new shelters on Wednesday, January 22. The shelters will have bathrooms, beds, and internet access for those staying there. Mexican officials are working quickly to finish the camps.
A representative from Nuevo Laredo, working with the federal program, said migrants will be registered at Bridge Two before being taken to the shelters in the western part of the city. Local officials hope the shelters will be ready by Saturday.
