LAREDO, Tx. (KGNS) - A family dispute turns deadly over the weekend.

Laredo Police are investigating the city’s third homicide of the year and they are searching for the man connected to the case.

The incident was reported on Saturday at around 5 a.m. when police were called out to a stabbing at the Love’s Travel Stop located at the 100 block of Pinnacle Road.

When they arrived, they found a man with stab wounds.

The victim has been identified as Jose Miguel Rosas Ventura, age 40.

He was taken to a Laredo Hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injures.

It’s believed that the victim and a relative were involved in an altercation that got out of hand.

“The indications are that they have identified a primary person of interest in this case,” said Investigator Joe Baeza. “The person was not present upon arrival of officers at the scene. He had already left and has not been located and seen since. For right now they are conducting a preliminary investigation and have been in contact with the district attorney’s office with relation to the form of charges in this case.”

Police say although this is the third homicide case of the year, this is the fourth victim.

The first homicide case of the year was that of a mother and daughter both killed.

The second homicide case was a man found on McPherson Road.

LAREDO, Tx. (KGNS) - A woman is facing charges for allegedly leaving her two children unsupervised to go to the gym.

Laredo Police arrested 25-year-old Ana Angeles Leon and charged her with child endangerment.

On Thursday, authorities received a call from a concerned neighbor at around 9 p.m. saying that they heard cries coming from an apartment.

Officers arrived at the scene and found two kids ages eight and five home alone without adult supervision.

When police asked where their parents were, one child said the father was at work and their mom had just went to the gym.

Jose Espinoza with the Laredo Police Department reminds parents that it is against the law to leave young children alone.

“The adults need to remember that it is against the law and it is a crime to leave children unattended, even if they think they’re asleep but um accidents can happen that can possibly lead to injuries of children if they are left alone,” said Espinoza.

Leon was charged with child endangerment and taken to the Webb County Jail.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - People who drive through the Mines Road area will be seeing some changes starting Monday, May 1 at 7 a.m.

The I-69 Loop 20 westbound ramp towards World Trade Bridge will be closed. It’s an experiment of sorts to see if the change will improve how traffic flows in that area, which has often been a source of complaints.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) said they will be monitoring traffic levels now and also during the closure to see if it has an impact. Raul Leal with TxDOT said, ”This is something that’s a collective project. A lot of the Mines Road Coalition made up of business owners, the City of Laredo, different entities have come into agreement for TxDOT to close that ramp so we can still get the flow of traffic into World Trade Bridge while getting a better flow of traffic for this section of 1472 north of Loop 20.” He added, “As you know, there’s a lot of traffic. People can’t get into businesses and cross streets very easily. So, we’re hoping that that will ease that long queue of traffic and still, at the same time, give the commercial motor vehicles going into Mexico the opportunity to get there in about the same amount of time.”

This pilot project will be taking place over the span of two weeks.
