Man allegedly steals vehicle and crashes while attempting to flee, police say

LAREDO, Tx (KGNS) - A man is facing charges after allegedly carjacking someone and causing a crash while evading arrest.
Laredo Police say a driver was reportedly shoved out of their vehicle near the 5500 block of Marcella Tuesday evening.
Officers responded to the scene and located the vehicle, but the driver fled resulting an a hit and run crash on Matamoros and San Leonardo.
Authorities were eventually able to detain the suspect near Chihuahua and Monterrey Ave near a creek.
The suspect was identified as Jose Angel Reyes, 19.
He was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, and evading arrest.
Police say the victim in the carjacking was not injured.
LAREDO, Tx. (KGNS) - The trial date for the man accused of killing a mother and daughter is expected to take place a year after their murders.
Rene Mendez is accused of the deaths of Sylvia Ramos, 37, and Brianna Ramos, 19.
Both women were found dead on March 6 at an apartment complex at the 2600 block of Lomas del Sur.
According to Webb County records, Mendez was indicted back in June.
In July a motion hearing took place where evidence was shown, including crime scene pictures and witnesses connected to the case were cross examined.
A jury selection is expected to take place on May 6 2024 in the 341st District Court.
Parents arrested for allegedly leaving 1-year-old and 7-year-old in unattended vehicle

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - A couple is facing charges after allegedly leaving their two daughters inside an unattended vehicle in the mall parking lot.
Laredo Police arrested parents Sarah Judith Rodriguez, 27, and Eric Rodriguez, 29 in the case.
The incident was reported on Monday, Dec. 11 at around 1:50 p.m. after a mall security guard reported a seven-year-old and one-year-old crying, asking for help while in a parked 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pick up truck.
Both Sarah and Eric Rodriguez were charged with two counts of abandoning and endangering the children.
The couple stated that they left their daughters inside the locked vehicle with the air conditioning on while quickly shopping for a dress for a photoshoot they were running late for.
Three arrested for robbery, victim also arrested for a separate incident

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A man seeking medical attention at a convenience store on Tuesday morning eventually lead Laredo officers to arrest three suspects for the alleged assault and robbery, but also the victim for a separate incident.
It started when the victim directed officers beneath the railroad tracks near Zacate Creek.
At that location, the victim says the individuals attacked him with a stick or rod and then stole his bicycle.
While at the crime scene, officers then received a separate call of a robbery involving three suspects who assaulted another male with a screwdriver and stole his backpack.
Officers were able to locate the three suspects near the creek on Houston Street.
Officers identified the suspects in both robbery cases as 27-year-old Adrian Gutierrez, 35-year-old Cesar Humberto Jimenez, and 41-year-old Roberto Mata were charged with aggravated robbery and engaging in organized criminal activity.
However, the victim who sought help at the convenience store, Francisco Perez, 35, was determined to have burned a tent belonging to the three.
Perez was also arrested and charged with arson.
Four people charged with murder following fatal shooting of 19-year-old

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - Four people are arrested in connection to Laredo’s seventh homicide case after a 19-year-old was shot in killed in the Mines Road area last night.
Laredo Police have arrested Ruben Tobias, 45, Ruben Tobias Jr. 18, Ivan Oziel Mendez, 17 and Jose Gustavo Dominguez, 18, who are being charged with the murder of Jose Roberto Obregon.
Both Tobias Jr. and Mendez received additional charges of Tampering with Evidence.
Authorities were called out to Acadia Loop and Lowry Road just before 10 p.m. after receiving multiple calls about gunshots in the area.
Officers arrived and found Obregon in the middle of the street with gunshot wounds and transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Laredo Police Investigator Joe Baeza said they canvassed the area and were able to locate a vehicle that was allegedly attempting to leave the scene but had some type of car trouble.
“They stopped that vehicle and the vehicle had two individuals who were detained. My understanding is that they found other pieces of evidence inside the vehicle including a firearm and a casing,” said Investigator Joe Baeza. “My other understanding is that also very quickly in the investigation that two other individuals left walking on Acadia Loop. Border Patrol agents were able to detain those two individuals they found them, and they were able to turn them over to our custody.”
Baeza added that detectives were able to recover weapons near Acadia Loop along with casings and even recordings of what led up to the shooting.
This comes just four days after another shooting was reported on Quail Creek but right now, police say it’s too soon to tell if the cases are related
LAREDO, Tx (KGNS) - A driver traveling at more than 100 miles per hour is facing multiple charges including unlawful carrying of a weapon.
The arrest happened on Sunday, Dec. 10 when Laredo Police officers discovered a vehicle traveling at 123 miles on Loop 20.
The officer conducted a traffic stop on a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro and arrested the driver identified as Jose F. Lucio, 23 for reckless driving.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found a loaded handgun with ammunition.
Lucio also received an additional charge for unlawful carrying of a weapon.
ROMA, TX . (KGNS) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized one million dollars worth of cocaine at the Roma port of entry.
The seizure happened on Dec. 2 when officers at the Roma International Bridge inspected a car coming from Mexico.
The vehicle was sent to secondary inspection and it was there they discovered 29 packages with a little over 80 pounds of cocaine hidden in the vehicle.
CBP confiscated the drugs and the driver of the car was turned over to the Staar County Sheriff’s Office.
