Former Catholic school employee charged with improper relationship with a student

LAREDO, Tx. (KGNS) - A former employee at a Laredo Catholic school is arrested in connection to an alleged improper relationship with a student.

Laredo Police arrested Carlos Zamora, 43, a former employee of Blessed Sacrament Catholic School

Zamora has been charged with one count of indecency with a child and one count of improper relationship between educator and student.

The case was brought to LPD back in December of 2022.

He was taken to the Webb County Jail and his bond is set at $100,000.

In a statement, the Diocese of Laredo and Blessed Sacrament School said:

Zamora is not presently an employee of Blessed Sacrament School as his employment was terminated several months ago.

The statement goes on to say, a report was filed to DFPS regarding an alleged incident that occurred at Blessed Sacrament School.

The Laredo Police Department thereafter initiated its investigation which led to Mr. Zamora’s arrest.

Below is the official statement:

We were recently informed of the arrest of Mr. Carlos Zamora, former employee of Blessed Sacrament School, by the Laredo Police Department. Mr. Zamora is not presently an employee of Blessed Sacrament School as his employment was terminated several months ago.

The Diocese of Laredo is committed to safeguarding the health and welfare of all Catholic School Students. All faculty and staff are trained on the law related to reporting abuse or neglect to the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), while all diocesan employees must complete the Safe Environment Program as part of their hiring process.

Following said guidance, a report was filed to DFPS regarding an alleged incident that occurred at the Blessed Sacrament School. This action is reflective of our policy of commitment to maintaining transparency and openness about such issues for the benefit of our community. The Laredo Police Department thereafter initiated its investigation which led to Mr. Zamora’s arrest.

We deeply regret that this alleged incident took place. Blessed Sacrament School and the Diocese of Laredo took immediate and proactive measures to protect its students and staff when it learned of the allegation of the incident, and has since then fully cooperated with the Department of Family and Protective Services and the Laredo Police Department. The matter continues under investigation and the Diocese of Laredo intends on fully cooperating with the authorities. Blessed Sacrament School and the Diocese of Laredo remains vigilant and will continue with its commitment to protect the welfare and safety of all of its students, employees, and the Diocesan community.



Laredo Police release identity of hit and run victim

LAREDO, Tx. (KGNS) - The Laredo Police Department has released the identity of the man who lost his life after a deadly hit and run that happened on Friday morning.

Authorities say Leonardo Teniente, 76, died after being hit while crossing the street at the intersections of Lafayette and San Dario.

According to police, Marcus Fischer, 22, was driving a blue car northbound on San Dario when he allegedly hit Teniete.

Teniete died at the scene from his injuries.

The police department states that Fischer told a family member about what had happened.

That person drove Fischer to police headquarters to admit his role in the accident.

Fischer gave consent to give blood as evidence in the case as the investigation continues.

Fischer has been charged with accident involving death.

Nine teens shot, injured during prom afterparty in Texas

JASPER COUNTY, TX . (KGNS) - The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department provided an update Tuesday evening on the prom party shooting that left multiple teenagers injured over the weekend.

Jasper County Deputies initially found nine victims upon responding to the scene on Sunday morning, but during Tuesday’s briefing, officials have now identified eleven victims ranging in age from 15 to 19.

Among the eleven victims, three remain hospitalized, while the other eight are at home recovering.

Four people of interest have been identified in connection with the fatal shooting.

No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.

Border Patrol arrest Latin Kings Gang member for illegal entry

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - Border Patrol agents arrest a convicted felon trying to sneak into the U.S.

The incident happened last Tuesday when agents arrested Heriberto Bustos Bautista, 26, from Mexico.

A record check revealed Bautista had been convicted of aggravated battery and use of a deadly weapon.

He served eight years in prison before being deported.

Bustos-Bautista was also a member of the Latin Kings Gang and had been deported once prior.

He was taken in by Border Patrol and is pending conviction for illegally entering the country again.

Man arrested for indecent assault and harassment at Laredo gym

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - A man is arrested for allegedly assaulting and harassing another man at a Laredo gym.

Laredo Police were called to a gym at the 5300 block of San Dario Avenue on Sunday April 23 at around 10 a.m.

An employee told police that two men were arguing over an alleged assault incident.

One of the men told the officers he was approached by Miguel Arellano, 47, in the restroom where Arellano allegedly made an inappropriate remark towards him.

The man said he was uncomfortable by the interaction and left.

Moments later he was approached by Arellano again inside the gym’s sauna.

The man claims, Arellano then grabbed him in his private parts.

The man went to look for an employee and explained the incident.

The employee then called police to report the incident.

Arellano was charged with indecent assault and harassment.
