LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Laredo Police Department is speaking out about the arrest and return of a murder suspect for the fifth homicide of 2013.

20-year-old Luis Cardona Jr. was on the run for nearly a year and was the only person missing relating to the death of Mike Torres Jr.

Aside from Cardona, three arrests were made in connection to this case.

Police say that with the help of U.S. Marshals and their Mexican counterparts, they were able to find Cardona and arrest him.

Investigator Joe Baeza with Laredo Police spoke about how the teamwork and cooperation with La Agencia Estatal de Investigación was essential to make this capture possible.

“This return is a testament to that. We also have people who have absconded to the United States, sometimes to try to avoid answering to justice in Mexico. We also do the same thing and reciprocate and return people to them. The relationship and cooperation are there, this is a good example of if you abscond to Mexico and you commit something serious like murder. They will go through great means to try to get you back,” said Baeza.

According to county records, no bond is set for Cardona.
