Laredo Police conduct active shooter drill at LMC

LAREDO, Tx (KGNS) - If you noticed a large amount of police presence at the Laredo Medical Center on Friday, no need to be alarmed, it was all part of an active shooter drill.

The hospital runs mock drills often to prepare hospital staff and first responders on ways to manage a violent intruder.

In fact, the hospital even held a drill last summer.

LMC said it’s committed to the safety of its patients, visitors, medical staff and employees.

The drill ran from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. with the assistance of local law enforcement.

Man wanted in connection to Laredo’s third homicide arrested

LAREDO, Tx (KGNS) - A man wanted in connection to Laredo’s third homicide is in police custody.

After nearly two months, Laredo Police arrested Juan Jose Rivera III, 19, who is allegedly tied to the death of Juan Humberto Zuazua, 37.

The incident happened on Mar. 27, 2023 when Laredo Police received a call about a fight going on at the 1100 block of Saunders.

When officers arrived, they found a man unresponsive on the side of the road.

Paramedics were called in and confirmed Zuazua was deceased.

The Crimes Against Persons Investigators launched a homicide investigation.

After a thorough investigation, police were able to identify Rivera as the suspect.

18-Wheeler loses load on Mines Road

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - An incident involving an 18-wheeler is causing some road closures in the Mines Road area.

According to the Laredo Police Department, an 18-wheeler has lost its load near Mines Road and Copper Mine Road.

As a result, all northbound lanes are temporarily closed.

Authorites are advising drivers to avoid the area and expect significant delays.

Man wanted by Laredo police for allegedly stealing a pickup truck

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Laredo Police Department is looking for 46-year-old Vicente Lozano Reyes. He is being sought in connection with three outstanding arrest warrants, including charges of Theft of Motor Vehicle, Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle, and a Parole Violation.

On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, Laredo Police received a call reporting the theft of a motor vehicle in the 5400 block of Capilla Street. When officers got to the scene, they were met by a male victim who reported that his 2003 Ford F-250 had been stolen from his residence.

Auto-Theft investigators went through surveillance footage which showed a male suspect breaking into the stolen vehicle and driving away in it. Investigators were able to identify the suspect as Vicente Lozano Reyes. He is facing a $20,000 bond.

Man accused of killing woman in South Dakota pending extradition

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - An extradition hearing was held for the man arrested in Laredo for allegedly killing a woman in South Dakota.

On Wednesday morning, Alfredo Castellanos-Rosales, 39 appeared virtually before Judge Oscar Hale.

According to our sister station KTIV, Castellanos-Rosales is facing charges of first-degree murder and second-degree murder in the death of Jordan “Jordy” Beardsher, 23.

Beardsher’s body was found inside her Dakota Dunes Apartment on April 26.

Rosales was on the run but was caught and arrested by Mexican authorities on May 12 and has since been at the Webb County Jail.

Our sister station in Sioux City spoke to the victims father earlier this month.

He believes her death was a tragic result of domestic violence.

“She was all about having fun when it was time to have fun, but when it was time to work, it was, she just buckled down, it was the best of both worlds, so my message is, if you see something, say something, preventative, being preventative about this is the only way you can stop it” said Shane Christiansen.

Judge hale ruled Rosales may be extradited in the next 30 days to South Dakota..

The victim’s family said they are glad that Rosales in custody.
