LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Jose Oscar Infante-Reyes was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Thursday, March 20, for causing a deadly crash during a police chase.
As part of his plea deal, some of the time he has already served in jail will count toward his sentence.
Infante-Reyes admitted to killing 63-year-old Maria Magdalena Montenegro de Carreon on August 13, 2022. According to court documents, Texas DPS troopers tried to pull him over, but he sped off and crashed into a Chevrolet Tahoe carrying de Carreon and another passenger.
His sentencing was first set for February 7, 2025, but was moved so the victim’s family could attend.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A man accused of human smuggling has been acquitted in federal court.
The verdict was announced on Tuesday, March 18, after a one-day trial where Darril Orlando Garcia was accused of transporting six undocumented immigrants in a refrigerated trailer last October at the Border Patrol checkpoint on I-35.
Garcia’s criminal defense attorney, Oscar Pena, said the jury deliberated for three hours and returned with a not-guilty verdict on all smuggling accounts.
In a statement to KGNS, Pena praised the verdict, expressing that he and his client are pleased by the jury’s decision to return a not-guilty verdict.
LPD: Three arrested after assault call leads to crash and foot pursuit

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - An early morning call to police regarding an alleged assault escalates to a vehicle pursuit, a crash, a foot chase, and the arrest of three suspects.
Laredo police responded to the 2700 block of Main Avenue at 4:21 AM on Thursday, March 20, after a caller reported an assault in progress. The caller stated that a family member had been attacked by multiple men. A minute later, a second caller provided the same information along with a description of the suspect vehicle.
Officers arriving at the scene spotted a white Buick LaCrosse leaving the area and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to comply, leading police on a pursuit. The chase ended when the suspect vehicle crashed into a stop sign and a parked black GMC Terrain on the 1200 block of Davis Avenue.
Following the crash, the suspects fled on foot near the 1800 block of Santa Ursula Avenue. Officers were able to apprehend and arrest three individuals:
Edgar Nunez, 30, was charged with Aggravated Assault, Evading Arrest, Assault, Accident Involving Damage, and Duty Striking Fixture.
Jonathon Nunez, 36, and Aurelio Nunez, 38, were charged with Assault and Evading Arrest.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the victim’s condition or motive behind the assault, and the investigation remains ongoing.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A man was put behind bars after having several arrest warrants.
The Webb County Constable Office for Precinct 1 reported that Angel Oziel Munoz was stopped by a deputy for a traffic violation.
After a background check, they found that Munoz had several warrants, including abandoning and endangering a child, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and theft of property, among other charges.
He was arrested on Monday, March 17, and taken to the Webb County Jail.
Woman arrested for assaulting Laredo restaurant owner, police say

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A woman was arrested Tuesday morning, March 18, after attacking a restaurant owner and refusing to pay for her food, police said.
Officers responded to a call at a restaurant on the 1200 block of Hidalgo Street around 10:28 a.m. The caller said a woman had become aggressive, assaulted the owner, and made threats before running away.
Police later found and arrested the suspect, 38-year-old Yvette Ibarra. She is charged with robbery and possession of drug paraphernalia.

8 undocumented immigrants caught after call from concerned citizen

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Border Patrol agents, in collaboration with Laredo Police, foiled an alleged human smuggling attempt.
According to the agency’s social media page, they responded to a call from a concerned citizen regarding a possible smuggling attempt involving a tractor-trailer.
When they arrived, they caught eight undocumented immigrants and processed them, charging each with illegal entry.
