LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Three people are facing murder charges following a robbery that escalated into a shooting that claimed a man’s life.

A 42-year-old man was killed Saturday, October 5, after being shot at the 100 block of Aurora St. following an attempted robbery.

Resident, Diego Gutierrez, told KGNS about his point of view as the robbery occurred. Mentioning, “I have dogs so they got a little crazy when they heard the shots and I didn’t hear that well, but when I saw the outside, I saw cars,”

Gutierrez was inside his apartment when he heard the gunshots and what sounded like a car driving off at a high speed.

“I came back at like 2 in the morning and saw a bunch of police surrounding the area. I couldn’t get to my house in the parking lot because there was a crime scene,” Gutierrez added.

According to Laredo Police, the victim, Luis Garcia was shot and tried to drive away about a block and a half before crashing into the sign of a business.

Investigator Joe Baeza, with Laredo Police, mentioned, “They found someone who was inside the driver’s seat with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was already unconscious, even though they took him to the hospital immediately. Regrettably, he did pass away due to his injuries.”

With the help of a witness who was also inside the car at the time of the robbery, Baeza says they were able to find the people they believed were responsible for the shooting.

Baeza added, ”It took place outside the street in a vehicle in front of the house of two of the assailants, the two women that were on Aurora St. Officers went there and detained the women, then brought them in for questioning and that developed the case some more.”

After speaking with 41-year-old, Brissa Vega, and 40-year-old, Deborah Uresti, Laredo Police were able to identify David Cruz as the third suspect and arrest him at his house on Snowfalls Dr.

“The people who were involved in this case also led investigators to the location of the weapon, and that was located at E Bustamante St. and was also recovered as evidence,” said Baeza.

While the investigation remains ongoing, Baeza confirms that all individuals knew each other.

All three were taken to the Webb County Jail.
