Woman charged with murder after stabbing her 10-year-old sister, deputies say
Published: Jan. 17, 2024
HALIFAX COUNTY, N.C. (WITN/Gray News) - A woman in North Carolina has been arrested and charged with the murder of her 10-year-old sister, according to law enforcement.
The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office says on Tuesday, deputies were sent to a home in the 2000 block of Beaverdam Road just outside of Enfield for a reported missing child.
Officials say the mother told police she found the child dead in the backyard.
Further investigation showed that the 10-year-old girl had been stabbed multiple times, and investigators believe the child was stabbed inside the home and moved to the backyard.
Kaneijah Bradley, 22, who is from Enfield, is the victim’s sibling, according to the sheriff’s office.
Bradley was arrested and booked into the Halifax County jail under no bond. She is set to appear in court on January 25.
The sheriff’s office says the motive of the stabbing is still under investigation.
According to WITN, this is not the first time Bradley has been arrested for involvement in a stabbing incident.
Bradley was charged with assault with a deadly weapon twice in 2023.
Records show that Bradley faces charges for a stabbing incident already pending in Halifax County for an alleged assault on her boyfriend last April.
According to the sheriff’s office, on April 22, 2023, deputies responded to an address on Christmas Road in Enfield for a call about an assault and a car being stolen.
Deputies said that the victim told them that he and his Bradley were driving on Beaverdam Road when she pulled out a box cutter and cut him with it. The victim told deputies he got out of the car and Bradley drove away, leaving him on the side of the road.
When deputies found Bradley, they said she still had the box cutter and the car, as well as blood on her clothing from the stabbing.
Deputies charged Bradley with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and larceny of a motor vehicle. At the time, she was placed on a 48-hour domestic violence bond. Bradley has a court date for the April charges set for January 29.
In a second incident, Bradley was arrested on August 27 and charged with simple assault, assault with a deadly weapon against a law enforcement official, and resisting an officer. Bradley has a court date on February 24 for those charges.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - January is Human Trafficking Prevention Awareness Month, and according to Statista, between 2008 and 2019, human trafficking victims identified worldwide quadrupled from around 30,000 to 120,000.
It’s a hidden problem across the country that needs more attention, and tens of thousands of people are human trafficked yearly worldwide.
It’s a problem that can affect any community and Laredo is no exception.
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, traffickers tend to lure their victims by using violence, manipulation, false promises, and romantic relationships.
Sgt. Erick Estrada says some of the human smuggling cases coming through the Gateway City can turn into human trafficking.
“For whatever transportation they will be receiving—or stash houses or payment that they need to leave to these cartels—they end up paying through, unfortunately, human trafficking. They get transported to Dallas, Houston, North Texas to try to pay back the cartels what they owe them since they don’t have the money to pay them off.”
Sgt. Estrada says some signs are recognizable in people who are being human trafficked.
They include living and working in isolated conditions, they appear to be monitored by another person, are living where they work or are transported by guards, and they tend to be silent and have been abused.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) -A cold arctic airmass with a combination of mostly clear skies, light winds, and very dry air will mean a hard freeze tonight with temperatures close to what we experienced at dawn today. The only thing that could keep us a little above the temperatures of early today would be if the cirrus clouds high above thickened a bit. Warmer southerly winds will bring temperatures above 50 Wednesday afternoon. Much warmer air will arrive above cold air at dawn Thursday. As this stirs in with daytime heating, temperatures will quickly warm into the 70′s. A colder airmass from the Great Plains will lower temperatures Friday. Moist air arriving above will limit sunshine by Saturday. The combination of cloudy skies and a north wind will hold temperatures to the high 40′s to around 50 Saturday. The layer of moist air will deepen with rain chances beginning Saturday night.
