Laredo police: man wanted for stealing nearly $200 worth of meat

LAREDO, Tx. (KGNS) - The Laredo Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man accused of stealing brisket and beef fajitas valued at $188.83 from a local grocery store.
The alleged theft occurred on January 3rd at the H-E-B on San Dario Avenue.
The Laredo Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding the individual’s identity to come forward. Tips can be submitted to Laredo Crime Stoppers at 727-TIPS, or anonymously via the Crime Stoppers app. Those providing useful information may be eligible for a cash reward.
NUEVO LAREDO, TAMAULIPAS. (KGNS) - The body of a lifeless person on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande is found near the “Claudette” neighborhood and near Viveros Park.
According to “El Mañana de Nuevo Laredo”, on Sunday, Mexican authorities located the body.
The Mexican media reported that the victim was identified as “Elfido”, a 23-year-old from Guatemala, and that he showed no signs of foul play.
Also “El Mañana” reports that Mexican authorities oversaw the investigations and ordered the transfer of Elfido’s body to a Mexican funeral home.
Investigation launched after Laredo Police Officer allegedly fires shot at dog

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - A pitbull dies after reportedly being shot by a Laredo Police officer.
This happened close to 8 p.m. Saturday night at the 2200 block of Maryland.
According to reports, the officer discharged his weapon when a pitbull ran towards the officer.
The dog died at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
SWAT team finds man with gunshot wound inside home in downtown Laredo

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - The Laredo Police Department’s SWAT Team is sent out to a neighborhood near the downtown area after receiving an urgent call.
On Sunday, Feb. 11 at around 2 p.m. Laredo Police received a call about a possible shooting near the 1900 block of Victoria Street.
Authorities set up a perimeter around the area.
Reports say one person was in a home alone and the situation was contained.
Police say the SWAT Team had been called out to the area to clear and verify the call.
At around 4 p.m. the SWAT Team had secured the home and said they did not find anyone inside.
Police say one male victim was taken to the hospital for what is believed to be a graze from a gunshot.
The case is still under investigation.
Two people injured following shooting at Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas

HOUSTON, TX . (KGNS) - Two people are injured following a shooting at Joel Osteen’s Megachurch in Houston.
Police say a woman walked into the building with a child and a rifle.
She allegedly started shooting, until two off-duty law enforcement officers fired back.
Some people inside thought the shots were initially fireworks or instruments.
The sounds of gunfire echoing through the halls of the building Sunday morning.
The sounds of the first responders arriving to the scene all playing out as people barricade themselves in rooms, while others say they had to run for their lives.
“When you hear the gunshots go off, you just look up, and you just want to believe that’s not what you heard,” said Christina Rodriguez. “You want believe that it’s something different until you hear the second shot of fires going off, then you see people running and then you see the fear in people’s eyes, it’s when you realize there’s an active shooter inside of the building.”
Rodriguez said she was in the library on the second floor.
“I started screaming there’s a shooter, there’s a shooter, and we all ran to the very back side of the library,” said Rodriguez.
For hours, we watched as people were escorted from the building.
Some churchgoers say they thought the sounds were instruments; others, parents who say their children were at daycare.
Groups of them brought out by police, some clinging to stuffed animals.
“I saw all the officers running through the second floor,” said Leonardo Sanchez.
Sanchez said he was in the elevator with his kids during the shooting.
“I really didn’t think it was someone who was really using a firearm, maybe fireworks. But then I started watching people running all around,” said Sanchez.
In a statement, Joel Osteen said the community will rise above this tragedy and stand firm in its commitment to love and support one another.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott offered the full support and resources from the state to help the community and bring justice.
Woman killed, and four others injured following crash on Loop 20

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - A woman is dead and at least four others are injured following a multiple vehicle crash on Loop 20.
The crash was reported on Monday, Feb. 12 at 2:30 a.m. near the 5200 block of Loop 20.
According to Laredo Police, a 25-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary reports indicate, four others were injured and transported to area hospitals.
Authorities are still in the process of notifying next of kin.
No word on the cause of the crash at the moment.
Due to the severity of the crash, the southbound lane of Loop 20 will be closed for the next two hours.
The crash remains under investigation.
Three teenagers arrested following shooting in south Laredo, police say

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Three teenagers are facing multiple charges after allegedly shooting at another vehicle in south Laredo Wednesday afternoon.
Laredo Police officers received reports about a shooting on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at around 5 p.m. near the area of Highway 83 and Prada Machine.
Border Patrol agents had called dispatch stating that DPS Troopers had stopped a red Nissan Sedan after reports of shots fired.
During the traffic stop, the rear seat passenger allegedly opened the door and fled on foot.
Both the trooper and the agent chased down the teen and arrested him without incident.
Before the arrest, authorities say the teen tossed a 45 caliber handgun which was recovered by officers.
After gathering information, police say that the teens allegedly shot at another vehicle and the victims returned to the scene where the suspects were pulled over.
Two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old were arrested and taken into police custody.
All three juveniles were charged with Aggravated Assault Felony 2. The 16-year-old that fled was charged with Unlawful Carrying of a weapon and evading arrest.
