State of Texas to send over 600 National Guard Troops to the southern border

EL PASO, TX. (CNN) - Texas has sent more National Guardsmen to El Paso to help with the influx of migrants.
Officials say more than 600 troops have arrived in the last 96 hours.
The El Paso Mayor said the city has reached its breaking point.
In December 2022, Governor Greg Abbott started sending guard members to the border to deter migrants from crossing the Rio Grande.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Laredo’s streets became the setting of a pursuit as Laredo police chased down a suspect riding a stolen moped before they finally made an arrest.
According to the Laredo Police Department, it happened on Wednesday, September 27, around 12:42 a.m., when an officer tried to stop the moped near San Bernardo Avenue and Lafayette Street. That’s when the driver sped off and the chase began.
The chase ended in the 3900 block of McClelland Avenue where the driver tried to hide within a residence while the officer was able to detain him.
Laredo investigators stated that the moped had been reported stolen from Corpus Christi, Texas.
The driver was identified as 22-year-old Edgar Cisneros. Cisneros now faces a series of charges in connection with the incident, including Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Evading Arrest/Detention.
LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - A man is facing charges related to vehicle theft after Laredo Police noticed a suspicious vehicle with out of state license plates.
Laredo Police arrested Moises Moreno, age 27 and charged him with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
The incident was reported on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, at around 11:06 p.m. when police noticed an unoccupied vehicle that was running at the intersection of Olive St. and Sanders Ave.
The officer noticed that the Orange Kia Sportage had Florida License plates and that the steering column had been tampered with, raising suspicion that it must have been stolen.
When police asked Moreno if the vehicle belonged to him, Moreno provided conflicting stories.
The officer detained Moreno, ran a check on the vehicle, and discovered that the car was in fact stolen from San Antonio, Texas earlier that day.
The Auto Theft Task Force continues to investigate this case.
Update: Laredo driver and LJB student killed in I-35 accident, man remains hospitalized

LA SALLE COUNTY, TX . (KGNS) - A driver and passenger are killed, and a man remains hospitalized following a two-vehicle collision on I-35 Tuesday evening.
The accident happened at around 4:30 p.m. on the northbound lane of I-35 and mile marker 41 just north of Encinal.
According to information provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 2020 Freightliner tractor trailer and a 2016 Ford F-150 were traveling north on I-35.
According to DPS, prior to the crash, there was an active construction zone with heavy traffic, which prompted the driver of the tractor trailer to decrease speed.
Authorities say the driver of the Ford F-150 failed to control the speed of the vehicle which is when the driver rear ended the semi-trailer causing the truck to rollover.
The driver of the F-150, identified as Maria de Lourdes Rincon, 40, and passenger, Maximiliano Ortiz, 15, both residents of Laredo were pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, a male passenger of the Ford F-150 was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
The driver and passenger of the tractor trailer did not sustain any injuries.
A family member as well as an educator at LBJ confirmed that Ortiz was a student at LBJ High School.
UISD release a statement saying that the campus is offering grief and bereavement support for students during this difficult time.

United Independent School District (UISD) officials have learned of an accident resulting in the death of a high school student from Lyndon B. Johnson High School.
The UISD Board of Trustees and district administration would like to extend their heartfelt condolences to the family and LBJ staff and students.

19-year-old killed, three injured in Dallas shooting

DALLAS, TX (KGNS) - One person was killed, and several others were injured following a shooting at a townhome community in Dallas Monday afternoon.
Police say they were called to the scene in south Dallas at around 2 p.m.
Authorities a 19-year-old was killed in the shooting.
The other three victims were taken to an area hospital. Their conditions are unknown currently.
So far, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
