LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Texas A&M International University released news that the school’s sixth president, Dr. Pablo Arenaz, had passed away.
The information was released on Friday, October 4, at around 3:00 p.m.
There is currently no information relating to the cause of death, and reportedly funeral arrangements are pending.
Before assuming the role, Dr. Arenaz served eight years as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at TAMIU.
Originally from Las Vegas, Dr. Arenaz is survived by his wife Norma, and their four children.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Texas reports that a 25-year-old man has been sentenced for sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child sexual abuse material.
The investigation began when authorities learned of a person in Laredo sharing child pornography through a WhatsApp account linked to Hernandez.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Hernandez admitted to sending a video containing child pornography on WhatsApp and possessing videos of the same material on his computer.
Hernandez was also ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution to a known victim and will serve 10 years on supervised release following the completion of his prison term.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A man was arrested after entering the country illegally for the second time. Border Patrol agents in South Laredo confirmed he is also a gang member.
The man is identified as 29-year-old Jose Leos-Velasquez from Mexico. He will be prosecuted and removed from the country.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Laredo Customs Brokers are worried about the potential domino effect of a union strike.
Currently, the only ports that remain open are the ones without unions.
The closest port of entry to Laredo is San Jacinto, a small port near Houston.
Customs Broker, Arturo Dominguez, thinks it could be at least two weeks before union workers negotiate.
Dominguez mentioned, “There’s going to be delays, and then again, there are things that are being rerouted to other places and other ports. It’s going to take a little bit of time to get to the other side of the country.”
HEB has released a statement that, in essence, states they do not expect the strike to affect their customers, and that their stores continue to receive shipments.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - During a patrol, Laredo West agents stopped a group of non-citizens attempting to illegally cross the Rio Grande River.
Among the group was Fausto Torres-Torres, who was found to have an active warrant from the Austin Sheriff’s Office for felony assault.
Torres-Torres was later arrested and transferred to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office for extradition.
