HOLA!’s Marcela Delgado in Miss Universe Mexico finals

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Best of luck to Marcela Delgado, host of KGNS+ Original “HOLA!” as she represents Tamaulipas in the Miss Universe Mexico pageant.

After competing in the preliminaries on Thursday, September 5, Delgado is set to take the stage for the finals on Saturday, September 7, where one of 32 contestants will be crowned Miss Universe Mexico. The winner will go on to compete in the global Miss Universe pageant.

This year’s event marks the first time the pageant has been held in Mexico since 2007. Fans can catch the finals Saturday evening, September 7, here.


Webb Co. Sheriff’s Office seeks help finding woman wanted for exploitation

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Webb County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help to find 54-year-old Norma Lisa Gonzalez. She is wanted for possibly exploiting a child, elderly person, or disabled person.

Gonzalez is believed to have been in Hebbronville, Texas. If you know where she is, you’re asked to call 956-415-BUST(2878) or 956-523-4408.

Laredo man arrested for alleged child indecency in Bexar County

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Laredo police have arrested a man on a Bexar County warrant for alleged indecency with a child.

31-year-old Eduardo Saldivar was arrested on Wednesday, September 4, at his home on Lost Hills Trail. He was served with a warrant from Bexar County for alleged indecency with a child.

Saldivar was booked and taken to the Webb County Jail, waiting to be sent to San Antonio.

Man with multiple warrants for violent crimes across Texas arrested at Laredo bridge

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A man attempting to cross the Gateway to the Americas Bridge was arrested after a secondary inspection confirmed he was the subject of multiple outstanding felony warrants.

On Wednesday, September 4, Laredo CBP officers used biometric verification and federal law enforcement databases to confirm the identify 25-year-old Jaime Ruiz Villanueva, who was wanted by several Texas agencies.

The warrants include charges for homicide/murder by the Fort Worth Police Department, probation violation on an original possession of controlled substance charge by the Midland County Sheriff’s Office, and an assault charge by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.

All three warrants were confirmed to be active, and CBP officers transported Villanueva to the Webb County Jail.

Mexican media outlets report capture of top cartel leader in Nuevo Laredo

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The capture of a top leader in organized crime is reported among several Mexican media outlets.

The arrest of Carlos Alberto Monsiváis Treviño, a top figure in the Cartel del Noreste who is also known as “Bola Treviño”, was arrested in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, on September 2, in a joint operation by the Mexican National Guard and Army, El Universal reported. He is considered the second-in-command of the Cartel del Noreste, which operates in Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León. Treviño is the nephew of Los Zetas leaders Miguel Ángel and Omar Treviño Morales.

KGNS contacted CBP regarding an alleged memo circulated to officers, warning of potential border dangers following the arrest of the high-ranking cartel member. However, in response, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said, “It is the policy of CBP to neither confirm nor speak to potentially improperly disclosed internal documents marked as law enforcement sensitive or for official use only.”

Treviño faces charges for kidnappings, extortion, drug trafficking, human smuggling, and attacks on Mexican military personnel. He has been sent to Mexico City for further legal action.

Laredo police investigate Webb County Deputy for alleged sexual assault

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Laredo Police Department is looking into claims of sexual assault involving a Webb County Sheriff’s Deputy. The incident was reported on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

The Laredo Police Department is working with the Webb County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office to make sure the investigation is thorough.

“At this time, due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, we are unable to provide further details,” said a spokesperson for the Laredo Police Department.

As of now, the Webb County Sheriff’s Office has not released any statement about the investigation. The police will provide more updates as the investigation moves forward.


LFD: 5 people unharmed after rollover on Matamoros St.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Five people walked away unharmed from a potentially serious accident due to weather conditions on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred just before 8:00 p.m. in the 100 block of Matamoros Street.

According to the Laredo Fire Department, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll over.

Inside the car were a man in his 50s, a woman in her 30s, two boys aged five and seven, and a two-year-old girl.

None of the passengers were injured and no medical treatment was required.

TAMIU gets $370,000 grant for new research tool

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) has received more than $370,000 from the National Science Foundation to buy a new X-ray diffractometer. This tool will help study the structure of different materials.

Dr. Fatick Nath, TAMIU’s Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering, said the new equipment will create learning chances for students interested in chemistry, physics, petroleum engineering, and more.

“This will also be a training tool to prepare the future workforce,” Dr. Nath said. “It can analyze the components of any material, whether in powder form or at the nano level.”

The X-ray diffractometer will also be used in courses like North American archaeology and other anthropology studies. TAMIU expects over 10 faculty members and around 3,000 students from eight programs in two colleges, along with local petroleum companies, to use the machine for research.

Neighbors alarmed by gunfire in Laredo’s Hidden Meadow subdivision

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Residents in Laredo’s Hidden Meadow subdivision were on edge after gunshots were fired Monday night, September 2, leading to an investigation by the Laredo Police Department. Police got the call around 7 p.m. from the intersection of Sunridge Loop and Wildwood Lane.

Officers found shell casings at the scene, confirming that shots had been fired. Laredo Police Department spokesperson Jose Espinoza said that investigators are looking at surveillance footage to help find the suspects.

“We have seen an increase in shots fired calls at all hours of the day, so it’s very important to always remain vigilant,” Espinoza said. “If you see anybody discharging a firearm into the air, always report it. We’re trying to also reduce stray bullets that may potentially hurt someone.”

Espinoza added that firing a gun within city limits is against the law and can lead to an arrest. He urged residents to report any suspicious activity right away.
