LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A vehicle fire was reported in a residential area of north Laredo and the case is under investigation as arson by the Laredo Fire Department.
The car was parked in front of a home at Aida Court and Puig Drive when it caught fire.
Neighbors say they heard a loud bang just before the flames erupted.
Firefighters quickly responded and were able to extinguish the fires, preventing them from spreading to nearby homes.
Authorities were seen asking residents for possible surveillance footage that might provide information on how the fire started. No injuries were reported.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - According to a KGNS poll, many locals plan to watch tonight’s debate from home, but one political party will gather at their headquarters.
In March, over 26,000 Webb County residents voted Democrat, compared to 4,000 Republican votes. These numbers are expected to shift as November approaches.
KGNS spoke with Sylvia Bruni and Jose Salazar, chairs of the Webb County Democratic and Republican parties. They stressed discussing the U.S. economy, immigration, and the candidates’ records during tonight’s debate.
A national poll from Harvard Kennedy School shows over half of 18-to-29-year-olds nationwide plan to vote.
The deadline to register for November’s election is October 7th. Webb County Republicans aren’t planning a watch party, but local Democrats will gather at their headquarters to watch the debate.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Two men are arrested for allegedly racing on Loop 20 on Wednesday night.
It happened just before 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday when a Laredo Police Department Lieutenant saw two vehicles stopped at a red light at the 2300 block of Bob Bullock Loop. According to the police department, that’s when a black Chevrolet Camaro and a blue Dodge Charger took off, appearing to engage in a race while accelerating at a high rate of speed.
The lieutenant then attempted to conduct a traffic stop on both vehicles.
Nin Carmona, 21, was identified as the driver of the black Camaro while 27-year-old Luis Eduardo Cantu was identified as the driver of the blue Charger.
Both men were arrested at the scene and charged with racing on a highway. However, during a search of the black Camaro, Laredo officers reported that they located a handgun with live rounds.
Carmona was additionally charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, according to the department.
Both vehicles were impounded with holds placed for them.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A man was arrested on June 25, after Webb County Sheriff’s Office searched a house at the 100 block of West Bustamante Street. Cesar Balderas faces charges of possessing child pornography, a serious offense.
Balderas was taken into custody at Webb County Jail on a $20,000 bond pending court proceedings. Sheriff Cuellar commended investigators, saying, “I thank the investigators for gathering all of the information for this case in an efficient and professional manner. I remind the public to please report any illegal or suspicious activities by calling our hotline at (956) 415-BUST (2878).”
Man arrested after evading, found with alcohol and drugs, Laredo police say

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Alfredo Garcia, 35, was arrested Tuesday, June 25, after he tried to escape from Laredo police for about six blocks in a grey Toyota Camry, officials said. The incident started around 4:20 p.m. when officers tried to stop Garcia for a traffic violation at the intersection of Alamo Street and Flores Avenue.
Despite police lights and sirens, Garcia didn’t stop right away. When officers finally pulled him over, they found open alcohol cans in the car and an altered prescription bottle with unknown pills. Garcia was arrested and faces charges of evading arrest in a vehicle and having a controlled substance.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The man accused of the April 27th bank robbery pleads not guilty in federal court.
Arturo Limon II is accused of entering the Falcon International Bank located at 10511 McPherson Road and demanding a bank teller to put money into a bag. Limon reportedly then fled with $19,508 in U.S. currency.
Limon is requesting a jury trial.
His case is being held in federal court.
Man arrested for allegedly breaking into sheriff’s unit in Laredo

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Police arrested a man early Monday after he allegedly entered a parked Webb County Sheriff’s unit and was found sitting in the driver’s seat, smoking and playing music.
Officers responded to a call about a suspicious person at the 1000 block of Guadalupe Street around 3:06 a.m. on June 24. The caller reported seeing a man inside the sheriff’s vehicle. When officers arrived, they saw a man matching the description walking near Guadalupe Street and Hendricks Avenue.
According to a Webb County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, the vehicle was not in the possession of a deputy at the time. Instead, the unit was at a local mechanic shop for repairs.
The suspect, identified as Ricardo Fraga, 29, was arrested. Officers found the sheriff’s vehicle with the driver’s door open and smelled cigarette smoke, confirming the caller’s report.
Fraga faces charges of vehicle burglary.
The investigation continues.
