LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reports that over $470,000 worth of cocaine was intercepted at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry on March 19. The incident occurred when a tractor-trailer hauling ceramic bricks was stopped at the Camino Real International Bridge.
CBP officers sent the semi-truck for secondary inspection, where they discovered 16 packages containing 35.4 pounds of suspected cocaine hidden within the trailer.
The street value of the seized drugs is estimated at $472,000.
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - Congress returns to Washington after spending a week away from the capitol with an eye on President Donald Trump’s agenda.
Republicans now press ahead with Trump’s agenda as negotiations begin on a reconciliation bill. The budget process allows the Senate to pass the bill with a simple majority instead of needing 60 votes to break a filibuster. It means Republicans can pass the legislation without support from Democrats.
The bill includes making the 2017 tax cuts permanent, eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay and gives the administration more money to secure the border and speed up deportations. The Congressional Budget Office estimates making the 2017 tax cuts permanent will cost around $4.6 trillion over the next decade.
On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments about whether to keep Louisiana’s congressional map in place. Louisiana was forced to re-draw its maps ahead of the 2024 election to include two black-majority districts; its previous map only had one. The justices are expected to issue their decision in June.
Trump’s team is also set to hold high-stakes meetings with officials from Russia and Ukraine in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia this week. The administration’s goal is to secure a 30-day ceasefire deal with hopes it will start the process of ending the three-year-long war.

BALTIMORE (WBAL) - A physician assistant on board a flight from Hawaii managed to save the life of a fellow passenger who just so happened to be a doctor returning from her honeymoon.
Dr. Jacquelyn Lacera, 61, got really sick about an hour into her flight home from her honeymoon in Hawaii.
“I became really nauseous. Thankfully, I was very close to the restroom. So, I ran to the restroom and started vomiting. I became very sweaty... and then, I started to have very bad chest pains,” Lacera said.

Fellow passenger Emily Haley, an emergency room physician assistant at Maryland’s MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, was returning from the Big Island with her family after a vacation.
“We’re just getting settled about to go to sleep for an overnight flight, and there was a call overhead for medical assistance,” Haley said.
Haley answered the call, first checking Lacera’s vital signs. She figured out pretty quickly that the doctor was having some type of arrhythmia.
“Once we had her blood pressure cuff attached, I saw that she was hypertensive. So, at that moment, we both talked, and I knew that I needed to act quickly,” Haley said.
When Haley learned Lacera is a doctor, they began working together. Haley gave Lacera fluids and oxygen and laid her down, but Lacera was still deteriorating. So, Haley decided she needed to use a defibrillator.
“We talked about it, and I said, ‘I think I need to shock you. I don’t have a choice.’ And she said, ‘Let’s do it,’” Haley said.
Lacera says the shock was the most painful thing she’s ever been through, but it worked, helping stabilize her until the plane landed in California.
“It’s amazing. God put her [Haley] in that situation, and she did everything right. It was wonderful,” Lacera said.
The doctor is still recovering and has some heart procedures ahead of her.
The airline sent Haley a letter, thanking her for her help.
“I’m just so happy she [Lacera] is doing well, and again, I hope to stay in touch, hope she’s connected to me forever,” Haley said.
After the ordeal, Lacera says she reached out to her congressman about what she says was a lack of proper medical equipment on board the plane. She says she hasn’t heard back.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The mother of a United South Middle School student is distraught after her 14-year-old son was allegedly injured by another teen with a stun gun.
According to the alleged victim’s mother, who chose to remain anonymous, “He had injuries to his stomach, his ribs, his neck and his arms hurt a little. He says that he’s in pain, they burn, he’s taking Tylenol for the aches and stuff.“
She later shared some pictures after the incident, showing the scars and bruises her son received from the alleged attack.
“When that happened, I wasn’t aware, so what were his intentions? What if he went there to harm him worse than what he did?” she added.
According to UISD, the teenager allegedly responsible for the attack went to United South Middle School with a woman who was picking up her sibling.
While on campus, the teen exited the vehicle and approached the now-injured student, where an alleged physical altercation began.
UISD says campus security and district police intervened to stop the fight, later finding a small stun gun in the teen’s possession.
In the end, the teen was arrested and is now expecting to face charges.
“I would expect something like this to happen off campus, not on campus,” the alleged victim’s mother said.
She believes that this was a case of jealousy that escalated into physical violence and encourages parents to monitor their teen’s behavior to prevent such incidents from happening again.
Stating, “[We need] to be aware of what their kids are doing. I know we’re not perfect, and I know our kids are teenagers, but it’s because they are teenagers that we need to be more on top of them to see what they are doing.”
The teen who was behind the alleged attack is expected to face charges of aggravated assault and resisting arrest, with additional charges possibly pending.
