Man walking on I-35 arrested with hundreds of pills, Webb Co. Sheriff’s Office says

WEBB COUNTY, Tex. (KGNS) - A 24-year-old man from Dilley, Texas, was arrested Thursday after being found with hundreds of pills and no valid prescription, according to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest happened near mile marker 18 on I-35 when a Webb County deputy spotted Benigno Castor walking along the highway.

Deputies found over 400 alprazolam pills and 120 tramadol pills in Castor’s possession. He was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and taken to the Webb County Jail.

The City of Laredo provides update on Boil Water Notice after TCEQ meeting

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - On Saturday, October 12, 2024, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, or TCEQ met with City of Laredo officials to further discuss the ongoing Boil Water Notice.

This is the second meeting that took place on Saturday, October 12, 2024, between TCEQ Water Supply Division and City of Laredo officials.

According to City Officials, the E. Coli contamination could have been caused by several reasons; possible evidence was found of a disruption caused by drilling water operations while fiber installation work was happening, another one includes aging pipes with possible leaks and or pressure issues, and they go on to say, The randomness of the problem is another complicating factor, though contractor activity appears to be a unifying theme.

City officials say they are optimistic that the Boil Water Notice will be lifted soon.

MS-13 “Gangster of Gangsters” arrested

ZAPATA/FALFURRIAS, Tex. (KGNS) - The Zapata Border Patrol collaborated with the Falfurrias Police Department in the arrest of 41-year-old Daniel Velasquez Machuca.

Machuca is an MS-13 gang member from El Salvador who went under the name “Ganger of Gangsters.”

According to Border Patrol, Machuca has served a 10-year sentence for kidnapping, multiple arrests for aggravated homicide, coercion and three separate arrests for extortion.

Laredo man arrested on multiple counts of possession of child pornography

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Webb County Sheriff’s Office Cyber Crime Unit executed 14 arrest warrants at the 1100 block of Diaz St.

On Thursday, October 10, 53-year-old Marco Antonio Barajas-Barron was arrested on 14 counts of possession of child pornography.

Barajas-Barron was taken to the Webb County Jail where he will be held on a $620,000 cash bail surety bond.

Webb County Sheriff, Martin Cuellar, mentioned, “I thank the investigators for gathering all of the information for this case efficiently and professionally. My office remains steadfast in its mission to remove these criminals from our streets and safeguard the children in our community.”
