Don’t be the dealer, get rid of unused medications this Saturday

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - Every year the Drug Enforcement Administration holds an event that aims to properly dispose of unused medication.
The national campaign is called, ‘Don’t be the dealer’ and it asks communities across the country to get rid of prescription pills in a safe way.
Anyone that might have outdated or pills that might not be needed can take them to designated locations.
The KGNS News parking lot will be one of many locations in the Gateway City.
Ricardo Oliva Jr. with the Laredo Fire Department said these efforts could help save a life.
“We do go through a lot of overdoses, whether it was because grandparents or the parents had medications it’s something that would be identified throughout the investigation phase, but overdoses have become fairly common now a days, so just be careful,” said Oliva.
There will be five different locations across Laredo.
If you would like to drop off any unused medication, you can stop by 120 West Del Mar Boulevard this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Man charged with reckless driving following crash on Cuatro Vientos

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - A 19-year-old is facing charges of reckless driving after a two vehicle crash that left a woman in serious condition.
Laredo Police responded to the crash on Thursday after 5 p.m. along Cuatro Vientos and Mangana Hein Road.
Xavier Neira is accused of driving at a high speed on the northbound lane.
Authorities say Neira crashed into a truck that was being driven by a 61-year-old woman.
According to officials, she was taken to a Laredo hospital in serious condition.
The case remains under investigation.
Halloween event to take place at Siete Banderas Park this Sunday

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - The public is invited to an early Halloween celebration taking place this weekend.
On Sunday, Oct. 29, parents can take their kids down to Siete Banderas Park located at 1508 Monterrey Avenue at 4 p.m. for a spooktacular afternoon.
There will be plenty of music, games, raffle prizes, food trucks and of course a best dress costume contest.
The event is being organized by Webb County Commissioner Rick Jaime, Councilmember Alyssa Cigarroa and Webb County Constable Lupillo Gomez.
Laredo woman leaves four children home alone to go to a bar, police say

LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - A woman is accused of leaving her four children home alone while she went out to a Laredo bar.
On Friday morning after 2 a.m., police responded to a home on Guerrero Street where they found the children ages eight, four, three and a baby who was only one without any adult supervision.
An hour later, a woman identified as Amber Uvalle, 29, arrived at the home.
Police say first responders were on hand to check the children’s health.
“It is a felony in this case. As per protocol the Texas Department of Child Protective Services was notified of the incident and the arrest,” said Officer Jose Espinoza. “It was an apartment complex when the officers arrived, they were notified of the possible apartments the children were at, they made forced entry and found the four children without supervision. The paramedics checked on the children and they were found unharmed.”
Uvalle was charged with four counts of abandoning and endangering a child.
14-year-old charged with firing rifle and making threats, police say

LAREDO, Tx. (KGNS) - A 14-year-old boy is charged with making terroristic threats and discharging of a firearm following a disturbance in downtown Laredo.
Laredo Police received the call on Thursday at around 4 p.m. at the 1900 block of Iturbide Street.
According to police, a terroristic threat was made, and shots had reportedly been fired at the home.
Officers immediately set up a permitter and issued an alert to the public to avoid the area.
Moments later, the teen was found a few blocks away from the home.
Authorities say the teen hid an AR-15 rifle at a different location, which they were able to convince him of revealing the location.
Officers were able to recover several casings.
The incident ended with the boy being taken to the Webb County Juvenile Detention Center.
He was charged with terroristic threats and discharging of a firearm.
No injuries or property damage were reported.
The case remains under investigation.
Vehicle fire on northbound I-35 causes traffic delays and lane closures

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A vehicle fire has been reported on the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 (I-35) near mile marker 22 as emergency personnel rushed to the scene to control the blaze.
The incident, involving a single vehicle engulfed in flames, has led to significant traffic delays and lane closures in the affected area. The fire was reported after 6 p.m. Eyewitnesses on the scene describe a plume of thick, black smoke billowing into the air as flames consumed the vehicle. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, and details about the vehicle and its occupants have not been released at this time.
Drivers are urged to be patient while emergency personnel work to clear the scene.
